A barely controlled order emerges from, and finally returns to, chaos.

This piece was premiered on October 28, 2023 at New England Synth Fest. For a video of that performance, see youtu.be/WDH320ugWuE. This is a new studio recording, but it is also a live performance, recorded directly to stereo in a single take with no edits or overdubs.

The primary sound source is a Wingie2 tuned to Meta Slendro, played like a keyboard instrument (plus a second one used as a resonator). The Wingie sound is processed by a modular synth, where it is hard-synced to a couple of oscillators and modulated by a variety of chaotic and random signals. The combined output is further processed by a sound-on-sound looping device. Finally, I used a few plugins (including reverb) to tweak the sound and master the piece.

In ancient Eqyptian mythology, Mesektet is the name of the ship that the sun god Ra rides though the underworld (Duat) every night before he emerges at daybreak to ride a different ship across the sky, bringing the sun to the world.
