about

This is a new revision, performance and recording of a piece I previously released as mysterybear.bandcamp.com/album/elegy-for-harold-budd.

This new version has the same instrumentation, and nearly all of the same musical elements, as the original. The notable exception is a new ostinato (or ground) that replaces the simple two-note bass figure in the previous version. This is a major addition, but I feel that it works well to provide a context for the music. I played this part on the Dvina, but plucked rather than bowed.

I used most of the same gear as before, but with several changes and additions, and a lot of tweaking of parameters and presets.

This version also reflects (I hope) more skill in recording, mixing, and mastering. I recorded the original using four audio tracks (one Dvina, three synth); this version used eight separate tracks (five Dvina and three synth) to reflect each of the layers of the piece. This gave me a lot more opportunity to fine-tune the audio characteristics of each layer and to combine them with great flexibility and control.

If you purchased the original version, please contact me for a download code (though it will be free to download for a while).
